It didn't work for once...

Well, election day has come and gone and good ol' Kentucky is at last free of Governor Ernie Fletcher. Fletcher is probably best known for his leading role in the so-called hiring scandal from a couple of years ago, in which he was eschewing the state's merit-based system of hiring for various government positions in favor of doling out jobs as rewards for his political shills.

His last minute bid to secure his reelection included the placement of a Ten Commandments monument at the state capitol, made Consititutional (barely) by the pallid inclusion of the Magna Carta and a handful of other historical documents meant to deflect attention away from the Decalogue's conspicuous position.

In any event, Fletcher's gone, and now we just have to sit back and wait for the new governor, Democrat Steve Beshear, to start disappointing us in a new set of ways.
